OP Report: The Long Awaited Calm ~ August 11, 2017

August 11, 2017

The Long Awaited CalmIt seems like ages since we last put pen to paper. In reality is has been decent amount of time and there is lot’s to catch up on. In the time since July ended we have seen almost every kind of mother natures gamut laid before us. From clear and sunny days on a lake, to tucking in behind the Guardian to ride out mid-summer storms. Port Louis has once again thrown us into its beautiful and unpredictable mire, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. When we left we were waving goodbye to long returning guests, only to welcome back…long returning guests.Tony Adrian was back again and as always he was all smiles and ready to get down to business. Along with first time partner Howard, they wasted no time getting into “danger” and seeing what the local fishing had to offer.

The boys went on such a tear, by the 3rd day the were releasing perfect mid 20’s

We were once again visited from the crew at Prince Rupert Grain, and the trip got off to a bang with Rob Bielik and Trent Rude splitting the big fish prize with beauty 26 lbers

Here we have Rob & Linda Gullette with their trip high 27 lber. The weather was challenging for the weekend, however hard work and a little assistance from their man Colin paid off and the proof was in the pudding.

Meanwhile, on the same trip, Dean Henderson was busy catching Tyees…

…and getting pranked. Happy 69th buddy. Dean set the 30 mark on day one and held on to the title through some epic competition.I bet you didn’t know we had Marcus Mumford working here. Yes the lead singer from Mumford and Son’s has been posing as a guide and he calls himself…Jonah. I wonder if he will sing for us.

With July at an end, we gave a very warm welcome back to the omnipresent Stan Clan!! Yes these “ Norm,” to our “Cheers” were returning to Outpost for an unprecedented 7th consecutive season. Bob, Kathryn, Ron and Co have been coming to The OP as long as I’ve been here, and they love it. We are always excited to welcome them back, and it always seems like a little family reunion.Day one is always Hali time, and this year was one for the books, with almost everybody bringing back a perfect Turkey and getting the trip started right.

Captain Ron, getting some love from veteran Kyla

Ron is a firm believer in the boat runners, as he demonstrates while winching in one of those turkeys

Brother Bob, rocking the classic look, was no slouch on the turkey hunt

He was no slouch for Salmon either, as the brothers show off another impressive day

Meanwhile the ladies were laughing it up, and having a blast with guide Bradan. Impressive numbers were put up all week.Kathryn, Kathy and Jacqy thought they should lead by example and show the boys how it was done.

Gordon Eberth shows he’s no slouch with a nice mid 20’s

The gang helped me out big time with the picture for this trip, as I was taking a guest shift in the kitchen.KRUD is always lively and competitive with this group. This round did not fail to live up to the classic games, with former guest winner Curtis Morgan looking very focused and determined.

It was a heated game, and I thought I would take the time to document the splendor with the help of my lovely assistant Kyla Anaka. Some very poetic shots

In the end, the intense and contested game came to close and low and behold…

Lucky me.As usual we like to celebrate Kathryn’s OP birthday in style, with a subtle little surprise party.

But it was Jerry turn to wear the hat

It was once again time for the Stan Clan to depart, but we look forward to next year, and we know we will see them again soon. That is where I’m going to leave it for now, but check in again next week for an update. So far this trip we are into 3 Tyees, another wagon full on Hali’s and tomorrows mission…could it be…Tuna? You will have to come and see.Until next time.Await the calm
