OP Report: Blast From The Past! ~ July 12, 2016

July 14, 2016

The last 10 days at the old OP have seen some brand new adventures, some vintage memories from the early days, and a special guest or 2. In the last little bit we have had an epic beach BBQ, seen photos of the OP from season 1, and learned about Ikura from Dr. David Suzuki. It’s never a dull moment here in Port Louis, as our friend Robert demonstrates by being the second guest KRUD winner of the season! Way to go. Must have been the coaching…

In the meantime out on the water, Young Jonah was getting his first taste of what the guiding life entails. Here we have Scott Fox wrangling his first ever 93 inch Halibut. Seven…& a Half feet long. The chart puts that at around 440lbs! Not bad for Jonah’s first afternoon. Needless to say the guys were pretty stoked to fish with him for the remainder of the trip.

Look how happy he looks. Aww!

Not to be out done check out Les Denherder with this HOG!

pic6

Wait a minute. Where did he get that jacket ?!? Ok, ok full disclosure, Les shared some photos with us of his first trip to the OP, back in 1999!! He dug up these gems and airdropped them to me so I could share them with you.Check out where the heli used to land

Here is the sight upon arrival in the first years

Next up the Delta group back for another week of fun in Port Louis.

pic10

With Chef Hawksworth in house, Stephanie rose to the challenge and nailed another fantastic week of meals.

pic11

From Hand made pasta, to spot prawn and Dungeness crab risotto, it was smiles all around.

We even got a little cooking lesson from David Suzuki. He saved a nice skeen of roe and made fresh Ikura for the on looking crowd.

pic15

Only to be followed up by our very own Cheffanie, with the always dazzling salt baked Salmon. She was blur before our eyes

pic16

Out on the water, the teams didn’t disappoint. Here we have John Lucchesi playing a fish off kicking horse, with David looking on. Hopefully Dewie doesn’t blow the net job.

pic17

All is well as John celebrates his donkey Coho.

pic18

Back at the dock Steve Patittuci and Ernesto Licursi celebrate a good day on the water. A couple nice turkeys and some spring to round out the box.

pic19

The dock was a hive of activity on the Thursday, as everybody got into them and brought back some beauty take homes.

pic20

One in particular was notable, as on the last afternoon, Bruce Langereis brought in this beauty 30lb Tyee to top off the trip.

pic21

Ernesto couldn’t resist getting in for a pic and we all agreed it looked better anyway

pic22

The week was up, but we look forward for Delta again next year

pic23

Next up we welcomed Andrew Paterson and crew for their first OP exclusive. A little slow out of the gates the team ramped it up on the second afternoon and put together a beautiful beach BBQ lunch on Twin Beaches.

pic24

The festivities included a bar

Baseball

The 100m dash.

pic27

And hand ground beef tenderloin burgers cooked over a bed of beach wood coalsIt was a great day out and all the Guests and staff assured we would do it again in the future.

pic28

Back at the ranch it was time for a little surf. Jonah taking the lead with some fun wipeouts.

With a way over due summary, fishing has been a little slower than we are use to in the last 10 days. We have had to hunt out the springs, although the Halis are getting bigger it seems. Yesterday we had another 82 & 92 inch Halibut brought to the boat. That’s well over 700lbs of Halibut in one afternoon from 1 guest!!The secret lunch spot has produced well over the course of the early half of the season as well Selvesson seems to be holding most of the fish migrating by. Wash rock was firing yesterday, with a nice 27lber caught in the morning. Today I think the boys are going to venture a little further out to see if Hippa is holding or maybe further down. Danger is producing the odd large fish, and kicking horse and Solide have been producing decent results. Yesterday Carl said right at quitting time Light house flicked on and it was double ups until they had to pull lines to head back. All in all fishing is looking up. The weather has been great this week and looking to be good in the coming days. Wait for our next update and hope to see you soon.Signing off from Port Louis,Jordan Knight
