OP Report: August Update Part 2 | Sept 4, 2018

August Update Part 2"Time to get your Stan On!"Once again the time has come! The great and powerful Stan Clan & Co has returned to Port Louis to continue their storied tradition of Red Deer dinner jackets, fish shaped hats, and raucous chants reminiscent of a tin cup raked against the bars. Ok, it’s not quite Attica, but these fisher folk are here, and they mean business.

Day 1 Ron brought the pain, and coincidentally enough, a flag

Everybody tried their hand at the top spot, and there was some very goods days on the water. Just ask the boat of Double Dick.

Not to be over done by Stan Squared.

Bob made no apology for his continued domination of the weight game.

Mother & Son team, Kathy and Keith getting a little dangerous in the Bay of Danger.

Kathy wanted to try her hand at the hat again.

All in all, dinner went over top notch as usual, with comments of…Almost…better than last year. I wonder who cooked that?

We at the OP, as a matter of tradition always like to take the time to celebrate the special days of our guests.

As the trip wound down, the derby was hard fought and very competitive. In the end it was Jackie taking the cup this season with her 27 lb'er.

Once again we say goodbye to the Stan & Co’s until next year.

Here we have longtime returning guest Steve Kastelar, with a nice low 20’s.

Another returning favourite Dave Anderson, along with his son and nephews joined us for another great trip in August

This August we were excited to welcome back our very own VP of Sales & Client Services, Chris Dale. Along with his father John, they put together a full group to book out the OP and enjoy 4 full days of great weather and excellent fishing. I myself ended up on the water for this trip and I picked a great week for it.Day 1 had the boats searching out the fish locally. We just happened to be on the scene when Geoff Gouinlock hooked into a monster off the moose knuckle. We caught all the action as he fought it for 10 minutes with help from his guide Bradan.

Geoff set the pace with a 29 lb'er on the first afternoon, and it would be understating it to say, the group was eager to pry the tittle from his hands.I myself took out Chris’s uncle Rob and friend Jamie MacDonald on the 3rd day and we went out to grab a couple chickens, and low and behold, we bumped into a few Chinook at the chicken patch.

Chris brought childhood friend Brayden Irwin along with father Grant and younger…louder brother Keegan. Here are the pair with a nice 20 lb'er

Here, we had Stephen Gilbert with the fight of his life in Danger Bay to land this 27 lb'er

In the end, on a sneak play Bob Casper revealed a 33 lb catch and release on the 3rd day. They kept it under wraps until dinner, and revealed the news to a surprised and somewhat glum Geoff, that he had been unseated.Back at the lodge, the crew is enjoying the last few trips and getting up close with the camera 1 final time.

Heidi is continuing her paddleboard lessons

And Sam maintains her KRUD domination

We said goodbye to Chris and the crew and readied ourselves for the last 2 trips.

The last 2 trips of the year brought back Dan Lorette and Prince Rupert Grain. Here we have Richard Forsell & Brian Olson celebrating a fantastic day on the water. Richard said it was some of the best fishing he has had here at the OP.

Ben Soucy celebrating a beautiful fish

The last trip brought us Rui Feng and his group back for another season final. Rui and the group enjoyed good fishing with variable weather conditions. The group had very pleasant experience, including a shopping bonanza at the end that was the biggest of my season. The group handed out the derby prize on the last night, but maybe a little prematurely. Low and behold on the last morning, in the last hour of the season, David Kong pulled out this beautiful 32 lb tyee to finish off the season nicely.

That is a wrap for another summer of fun at The Outpost in Port Louis. This season started slow, but as it picked up, we saw some of the biggest fish we have had in years and the numbers were excellent. The staff and I had a great time welcoming new guests to share this wild place and were excited to welcome back friends from years past.As we get ready to hand the place back over to the caretakers, we reflect on another summer spent in one of the most special places in the world. These wild places are our greatest resources going into the future. We look forward to sharing them with new and returning guests alike. Maybe someday we will be able to share the experience with you.Until then, I am signing off from Port Louis.Cheers,Jordan
