OP Report: August Update Part 1 | Aug 10, 2018

August 10, 2018

August Updates Part 1We have finally got into the month of August and we have had some fine fishing and excellent weather to date. The size average on Chinook has been great, Halibut is plentiful and the Coho have arrived in greater numbers, with some 15 lbers hitting the dock recently.Just after we left you last time, Joesph Panaisti, caught and creatively released a beautiful 39.5 lb monster off of the lighthouse.Guide Hanes, had the beast lined up for the shop, but the slippery monster was ready and wrestled free to nice half gainer into the water. Not to worry folks, the fish hit the water clean, and was off like a shot.

We also welcomed back James Tate, and partner Tricia. Tricia’s father Ed has been fishing with us for years, but was unable to make it this season due to injury. We hope Ed has a speedy recovery, and will keep the pond stocked for when he gets better. Here we have James showing off a nice keeper mid 20’s

Michael and Janet Huth joined us for the first time this season. Michael started the trip off right boating this perfect 30 lb Tyee

Jon, Shelly and Jenelle Kral joined us for the first time, and Jenelle celebrated here first Tyee, with a 35 lb release on day 2.Here we have Bradan celebrating another victory at the KRUD table. My title may be getting harder and harder to defend.

The winds did pickup last week and we endured some of Haida Gwaii’s famed Northwest for spell.Fishing locally was good on the tides, and when we could get out to Tian or down to Lighthouse we were having consistent bitesAs the weather calmed down, we welcomed first-time guests Scott Fraser and Debra Jewra. The couple had a decent first day, but on the second day I got the call out from the lodge for a good little photo op. A quick 2 min ride and I pulled up along side in time to see a perfect 42 lb Chinook release…within sight of the lodge.

Here we see another clean release from the butcher. They claimed it was there first bite of the day. Not a bad one if you ask me.As we speak, we have the Stan group in the lodge, back for another year at the OP. The weather has turned and it’s full steam ahead for tubs to start rolling in.Check back soon for part 2
