North Island Lodge Update June 25 ~ “55 pound release, oh baby!”
June 26, 2014 | 3910 Views
The last day and a half the bite has been on as our guests have been busy with lots of great action, double headers, more Cohos running through and a few nice tyees along the way. The most memorable of course being this beauty 55 pounder, caught and released by Dennis Dieni and guide Drew Manson. This big guy was as angry and aggressive as they come and put on one hell of a fight!
Earlier this week another massive pod of Orca whales came through and spent a few days circling Langara Island scattering fish and entertaining our guests with their majestic presence. But even when nature plays hardball we still manage to sneak in a few.
Gunia Pt. continues to be a reliable spot for bigger Chinooks this season as Mike Sen would attest to with his nice tyee pictured here.
While I was shaking sea lions in the kelp with my guests, Guide Tanner and guest Richard Butland released a 41 lber off the horn at Andrews Pt. His commercial fisherman father who recently passed through the area on route to the grounds is sure to be proud.
The Mclachlans and Paul Ebbs with a nice stringer. Brian Mclachlan also earned a beauty 39lber from Lacy Island.
Whether was tough the last portion of the weekend trip with prevailing South East winds, but could not have asked for a nicer crew during these conditions. Their reward was a decent final morning sneaking in a few last minute specials.
I’d like to introduce “This, That and the Third” new member to the North Island team, B.A. Sarah Brack “Attack”. Originally hailing from Cowtown, Sarah has a natural gift of the one-liner and gets as excited a kid on Christmas morning when talking about her cat named Jonah, with an H! When not “disting”, (urban dictionary reference) this crazy cat lady is dreaming about what sweater vest the Honorable Stephen Harper will wear next while listening to 90’s pop divas. Ask her a few questions on arrival and I think you’ll be surprised by her answers and there are sure to be some interesting conversations to follow…Welcome aboard Sarah.
