North Island Lodge - Welcome to the Rodeo

July 29, 2012

I'm back on the blog as Pat Cullen has been full tilt on the guiding program recently.

The Remington exclusive group from Calgary was in house last weekend arriving in style with some very nice custom North Face bags sporting a retro NIL logo and individual guest names.

Guide Kauri returns after chasing “The Stoke” in Australia and completing his commercial dive courses. He’s right back into the swing of things, and just rolled in with a 33lb this afternoon while fishing the Pass.

The afternoon fish at Lacy produces a mixed bag to fill some dance tickets.

The guys also brought the latest in saltwater fly fishing gear and spent an hour casting into the kelp. The wind made it difficult but they still a few laughs and managed to get a few tugs from the local bass and rock fish.

John Fisher had a few of us in stiches with his halibut fishing stories and pictured here doing his best imitation of a Yellow Eye rockfish coming up from the depths, or Jaba-the-Hut…You decide.

Guide Bill displays a couple of his custom “one of a kind” Tomic plugs including a killer whale plug! A salmon eating an orca!..Revenge for the salmon I guess?

So who won the Remington derby you ask? Well, None other than Randy Remington of course. Sneaking in a 36lber on the last morning. His last words before jumping on the helicopter, “This was a story book ending”. Yes Randy, I would have to agree.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last night Ryan Merrill and guide Drew dropped in with 47lber guided taken from the pass.

Back to Back hogs! Just minutes ago, I snapped this photo of Ron Kaufman and guide Brent with a 54lber release. Well done Ron, our largest of the season to date.

Currently glassy water conditions and high overcast conditions are gracing Langara Island and it’s looking “fishy” today. Though overall Chinook numbers have been a little off recently the quality fish are here now.

Long time guests the Anderson’s and crew up next. Stay tuned for more big fish and crazy antics with this crew.
