The annual Dirtt trip kicked off this week with familiar face Mogens Smed and his crew. Although the fishing was not like he and his guests have seen in the past everyone had a very positive attitude during their hunt for a Tyee. Guests on this trip released almost all Chinook salmon, understanding the conservation concerns the pacific salmon face today. In situations like this it is great to see people focus on the experience, education of the area and the great people, rather than number and size of fish caught.
Don’t get me wrong, there was some serious fishing to be done out there and some nice Tyee caught on this one. Mike Cain and guide Kauri Thornton worked the southern triangle hard before coaxing a 45.7 lber to bite. Mike also headed out West for hali getting into a 118lber to round out his trip. Heath Fairly also joined the 40+ club fishing Boulder Bay with his son Hayden and guide Dale Parno tying into a 42lber that gave him a great fight. The last two days the ladies stepped it up; Sandra Mott captured a 32lber and Michele Facey got into a last morning 30lb Tyee. All Tyee were voluntarily released in hopes of adding to the gene pool. Thanks again Mogens, great to see you again.
