After a 2 day lull on the salmon fishing, things picked up and we are back to strong numbers. The boats spread out from east down to the Cabbage Patch to McPhearson Pt and all spots were producing fish to some degree. Ed and Joanne Hedges had some incredible action choosing to work Explorer Bay and Mcphearson Pt. They caught a total of 3 Tyee’s with the largest being Ed’s 41 lber. Ed was all smiles, and for good reason.
Not to be outshined by the pile of Tyee pins at Hedges dinner table, Dave Showman added a 36.5 and Janice Dickson had one more for the ladies with a 34.
Once again halibut fishing remained strong with boats heading west finding some big boys, largest being Bill Herder’s 250 lb monster. Michael Iverson also managed to grab a 74lb beauty while trolling for salmon, sure beats fishing for them as I like to say.
Just a reminder, that The Spring Salmon Challenge wraps up July 9th with just a few days to go the current leader remains at 48.4lbs. Some serious Tyee’s are rolling in now, so test your knots, get your measuring tape ready, and charge your digital camera, it’s going to be a good finish.
