North Island Lodge Report: July 25, 2009

July 25, 2009

Good Times! We are going full tilt at the poker table and the fishing grounds.

Amazed with the number of Coho, Dave Dunn and friends found it hard to keep bait in the water. They definitely stayed busy, firing defenseless cut-plugs down into the masses of coho, and in time, managed to squeeze out a few Chinook.

Long time guests, the Sobey and Graves from Canada’s east coast headed to the west side of Langara. They had hit the halibut grounds several times before, but had never headed west. I reminded them it is all about the conditions and now was the time. Their totes were impressive gaining a new appreciation for our halibut fishery.

The entertaining Remington exclusive joined us last weekend for a few good laughs. This crew spent about as much time on the Hali grounds as salmon fishing, carpeting the dock with multiple hali from 20-100lbs headed for Sea Pak.

“Randy Remington doesn’t lose”, a comment I heard several times as we watched him take down the poker table all night. Shortly after, he treated Steve Cazemier to a quick needed trim before his wedding day. Don’t worry Steve, I got your back with a message to Steve’s Fiancé, he clearly didn’t have option at the time. I hope he had enough left on top to work with for the big day.

After a slower start for Chinook Last week, the Tyee started to pour into Langara. It’s not a numbers game, but the multiple Tyee mornings have left plenty of smiles up and down the dock. Guides are holding position in their favorite locations and waiting for them….Boulder Bay, Mcphearson Pt., and Cohoe Point are all producing fish.

Looking through a few photo’s of last week ,  I couldn’t help but notice the different poses and angles people choose to display their Tyee..

The electric guitar…..

The Bear hug…

The coat hanger…

The soggy guide and guest combo…

DJ says, How do you like them apples! The Pickseed group has been visiting us for over 20 consecutive years, back again to add a few more pins to their collection. Notice the old North Island apparel. Howard “The King” Bishop bows to his 42 lber. Look at the angle that perfectly captures this proportionate beauty…No we’re not talking about you Howard!
