North Island Lodge Report: August 19, 2010

August 19, 2010

Yes, sunny skies! Everyone was in shocked last week having our first taste of vitamin D in a long time. It was a nice change not having to put the raingear on to step outside. Northwest winds have been holding a fogbank offshore and although there’s some tough conditions on the Westside of Langara, our favorite eastside haunts are still open for business and holding a fair amount of Chinook in the thirties.

Here’s James Koehle with a beauty 42 release from “The Reef” just before the fog lifted.

The Bosa exclusive was here over the weekend for a few laughs, a little poker, and their annual fishing derby. Overall winner was Kerry Kelly from Las Vegas with a 50 even…What are the odds of that there Kerry?

Always a fashion statement with Bruce Currie and Walter Gazzola who obviously planned this matching shorts and sandal combination.

Master blogger, Ken Beatty was by for a visit yesterday. With the Masef’s backing him up, he was quick to call me on my lack of reports. Here’s Richard and Christina Masef who have fished North Island together for a total of three trips this season. Some say, those that fish together, stay together. It seems to be working for them.

A total of 7 Tyee’s landed last trip. Kevin Weid’s 36lber took top prize but not far behind was Ralph and Dave Willcott with a matching pair of 34’s.

Fishing today was a little quiet on the numbers side, but still several Chinook in the mid to upper twenties rolling in. Westerly winds have finally eased and guides are starting to talk halibut fishing again.  We should have updated hali report for you soon.

For tomorrow, clam seas and large Chinook in the forecast. This is why we love the month of August at North Island.
