The Clubhouse Report June 6 ~ "No wind, flat seas, sunny and a zillion fish..."

June 7, 2014

Fishing is happening here at The Clubhouse, yes the Chinook run is building in volume and size each day we head out. A few large springs and an extra large were angled and released here at The Club as well, good news for sure.We have had three fish over forty, one over 50 and the best part was all were safely returned after a picture, great news if you are a tyee! A 53 was taken deep, 80 feet on the cable in the trench of Gunia, guided by Tyler, yes the good old cable came through again. Kai and his guest snuck a 40 out of the reef, very nice. Not to leave out Conman, who tripped over a 46 out off Lacy, his guest was a first time visitor, and happily returned the monster to continue on its way down the Charlottes.Yes these trophy fish are in the mix of a zillion teenagers, found just about everywhere right now. The main jag is hanging out off Lacy, but was rudely disbursed this am by the black and whites. For three days we have been on this bite, and it was a two rod fishery for the most part. 50 to 90 feet, or 20 pulls on the clumsy old 8 ounce mooching weights, did not matter. Fish after fish, got one, got another, this fishing gig can be good times. No wind, flat seas, sunny, and a zillion fish haha, smiles everywhere. This pm was slower out at Lacy, and when Steve Tennant called me on his secret channel to let me know he was SO ON EM, I took the bait. He was plowing around Mutton Bay, hitting a few small Jacks I am guessing, maybe a few closing in on 17 lbs. So I plowed over set my gear, all the while Steve barking at me 60 feet, and fishing is steady, I am the man! What the sam heck? What a cave man. I promptly quaded up on bass, very nice indeed. Are you sure those are kings you see on your sounder? How many years? We had lots of laughs and I high tailed it outta there. Kill me, all my leaders gooned, flashbacks of Paul, the mad New Zealander who discovered Mutton Bay running through my noggin. Paul once claimed 75 hits in this piece of water! I might never return to Mutton, leave Mutton to Steve! So we are fishing into our last day of trip three tomorrow. We are hoping the whales move out over night and the fish have empty stomachs in the am. Check back soon for a full report.Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
