The Clubhouse Report June 19 ~ "TYEES, TYEES, TYEES!"

June 19, 2014

The tyees have shown up here at Langara, and this is officially our biggest trip at 14 so far. Not surprisingly, so has the bait, as you can see below, some of these herring are monsters, this one below at 27 cms, is on the larger size, the second herring an average size. The bottom herring is a store bought, and yes there is quite a visible difference.

jigged herring

It was one of these jigged herring I cut plugged up and dropped at Boulder Bay Monday evening and shortly there after grabbed a 36 lb tyee for Bob Faktor. Pretty satisfying to spend time jigging fresh bait, then putting it to good use. I finally figured out how to store it and get some mileage out of it, and every chance I get I am filling my broiler.

We had 14 tyee on the trip, largest grabbed by Mark Bemister tonight at 42 lbs, and promptly released. Doris Jones grabbed a 36 with Kai White, yes the late Charlie White's grandson. Remember the ultimate lure? Sandy Mcintosh snuck a 35 in to get Hans off the snide, his first guided tyee of the year. They were a half mile off Lacy trolling 80 feet on cable.Brendan Morrison and Curtis Glencross had a great time filming with Conman off the highway, way out on the west side. Team Calgary had three tyee today, angling a 31 for Glen, while Morrison playing center chipped in with the assist, and two tyee of his own, 31, and 32. Just another 3 point game for Brendan, typical afternoon for him. They trolled deep on the wire averaging 110 feet of cable. All fish were released, well done guys!Bud had some fun , guiding Ryan Erickson to a 31, while finding Bravin Goldade a 31 as well yesterday. Bud is off the snide officially and can now eat meat and get a ride up the hill, punishment for guides that are tyee less at solstice. You must have a tyee by June 21 or the heckling begins, as well as the new diet, more meat for Bud!Bob Factor is in the third picture I am including, wearing the LEAFS HAT. I told him he would be wearing it for dinner service, if we found a tyee with one hour in our day to go, and yup, the Leafs came through. HE was hesitant, but kept his word. We found the 36 at Boulder on the high slack, what a nice way to head in at 630 pm. Great day for us and the Leafs.

The last picture included is taken off Mac first day of the trip, here Chris Kolozetti and Todd Gardiner grabbed a pair of 27's fishing in the bait balls, a nice way to start the trip. A great way to finish too as we are sleeping in tomorrow, we have our salmon boxed, and a rest is in order after a visit tonight.

pair of 27s

It is now happening here at Langara, yes that is why this is the best Chinook fishing in the world, consistent action, and with all these tyees starting to show up it's time to get some sleep, these next two weeks will be huge!Goodnight from the Clubhouse.Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
