The Clubhouse Report July 30th ~ "Weather is excellent, zero wind, sun for the next week and a pair of 52 pounders!"

Twin 52 lbers for two lucky anglers at The Clubhouse this week, and a couple nice photos of a live release! Here is a pic of Jesse Bernal with a monster 52 lber taken off Noname Point in boat 3 with guide Steve Tennant! The pair had been on the world tour, first stopping at Lacy, then dropping in at Thrumb. No go so off to the Lighthouse, looked good but notta, so slippery Steve headed south after gawking at Lions. Hmmm bait, needlefish, ducks, me thinks I do a swipe in here! Not long after dropping them, the result was a monster. An excited Steve called Conman, "I have a monster!" We all waited for the numbers, I think it was 45 x 30.25. Thanks again for the release. The guides here at The Clubhouse have been releasing these Hippas since 1992 , and we are proud most of the over 50's are swimming!

* Steve Tennant with the 52 pounder reviving in the live well. Do they survive? Well they do not for sure if they are bonked and placed in a tote. We tagged these fish for many years and much was learned from the releases. I had a tag recovered on one monster over 50, a fish captured again in Milbank Sound, sport caught five days after release. I also released a 56 at Cohoe Point, tagged, and soon after caught by another lodge, same area, only to be retained! So many do swim on to the spawning grounds, and how fun is it as a guide to watch the big tyee regain its strength and swim away, always the best pictures.Here is another great shot for this post of Kevin Redmond and a beauty 38.5 lb spring.

Fishing here is good right now. Lots of small to medium springs, not many tyee. The fish are scattered somewhat, todays bite very deep on the troller tack. Yesterday, the 52 was taken off the Jalun in Koreys skiff. I seem to be working hard for a mid twenties Chinook, and anything over twenty is considered a good Chinook. The Coho are abundant, no issues there for ten lbers.Weather is excellent. Zero wind. Sun for the next week. Warm. Where am I? Everything is good here at Langara, a few more tyee and we will be over the top!
