The Clubhouse Report August 14th ~ "Enjoying a very nice August thus far!"

August 14, 2014

Fishing continues to be very good here at Langara. The fish and weather have been co-operating and we have been enjoying a very nice August thus far!Below is a picture of John Simpson and myself about to release a decent fish at 33 lbs.This fish was taken out on the West Bank, combat fishing tight in the kelp. Not a lot of room in there, and not a lot of room given. We hooked up almost inside the rock and with a half dozen boats rod tip to rod tip, it can be a chore to keep your tyee out of the kelp, and clear of the many lines angling not a boat length away. John did a great job sticking the fish and with max pressure we had it in the release tank in 20 min. Some nice pics and off she went, always nice to take those pictures and videos.

33lb tyee release

* John Simpson 33lb release. We are finding an abundance of the low twenties Chinook now, something we have not had most of the season. With the commercial fleet now targeting Sox and Coho we are finding larger waves of Chinooks out at Cohoe Point. There are also Sox everywhere, jumpers all over the east side, heavy concentrations at the point, as well as in Pillar. We are catching some on bait, unusual for us. The springs are deep, shallow, and everywhere in between! 00 feet on the rigger, 30 pulls out off the point, or regular depths in tight. We fish shallow on the West Bank, and tight to shore.A few big northerns around, Korey has taken the title away from my boat with a beauty 17.5 lber out fishing with Dave Golten and his group. Here is a pic of that specimen, as well as a pic of John Fader and George Ledson enjoying a troll off the West Bank.

* John Fader and George Ledson enjoying a beautiful Langara day! Yes, foul weather gear has been optional. Just to show you the difference a week makes, look at the beating we were taking in the thunder showers earlier in the month!

* Cohoe Point thunder showers.

* Cohoe Point thunder showers. Jollean Hancen had plenty of nice fish on the last trip including this beauty Chinook out at Cohoe Point, August 10th. Yes we had a misting that day, dry now I promise!

* Jollean Hancen and a beauty Chinook!

* Jollean Hancen and a beauty Chinook! Largest fish of the current trip is 37 lbs, with five or six tyee on the board. Conman just told me over the scrambled eggs, waffles, hash-brown, flank steak, and dollop of whipped cream on his plate that Doug Gowland released a 31 with him on the West Bank. Also mentioned some stink-eye was involved, and the legend of the West Side continues to grow! Always funny until someone loses an eye!So, time to get out there, the season is passing us by quickly. Get up here, if you can, the guides are on standby waiting to hook you up and show you the area and fishery.Check back soon for a full report of this quadrant.Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
