Douglas Smith (Guide Bud) - 61.5 Release

* Douglas Smith all smiles with his 61.5lb Tyee caught and released with guide Bud. A rainy fogged in night here at Langara, nice to be inside by the fire writing this Blog tonight. A great day in here for fishing, five Tyees including a 40 lber released on Evan's skiff, his largest ever fish to date! Wow, way to go, atta boy! Steve Wisnewski was the lucky angler, Bruin Bay the lucky spot.

* Arden St. Andre and guide Mike Ross with a 40.2 lb Tyee caught and released in Explorer Bay. This trip started yesterday, Sunday the 26th and all ready the board is full of fish. Springs up the East Side are pretty thick, and fishing deep off the outside is producing strong buckets of fish 18 to 29 lbs. In short order yesterday we grabbed three mid-twenties and were back in no time with anglers D.C Morse and Brent Jones. There are a lot of Chinook down 150 feet, one after another. Those targeting larger Chinook in the usual haunts are producing at a slower pace, but the fish are frequenting Pop Off Point, named 20 years ago by Steve French, Gunia, and to a lesser extent deep in Explorer Bay. Pop Off Point is located between Bruin and Gunia. A rather large amount of bait is in there, and with some luck and timing you can drag a Tyee out of there. Jared in boat 5 is off the snide, snaking a 31 lb Chinook late this afternoon in there. You might troll an hour between bites, but the bites can be big!The Coho continue to show up in numbers, still averaging about 9 lbs for a nice one, but a larger fish at 13 hit the dock in Shawn's boat. These fish can be found all around Langara, but the hotspot seems to be 250 feet of water offshore NONAME point. The winds have curtailed Halibut fishing, big westerly out there, thanks for that. The boys are having no issue grabbing the smaller 9 to 15 lbers off Pillar Bay though.Last trip I had Mark Zivot aboard and we went on a road trip 12 miles along the top of Graham island to an area called Eagle Rocks. Here we fished for a couple hours grabbing some nice fish including a 36 lb Chinook which we released, pictured below. This is a beautiful area to fish, heaps of bait, whales, and a kelp forest to hug tightly. This is shallow fishing, 30 feet or so on the rigger, 9 to 15 pulls off the mooching rods. Exciting stuff, the hits are big. The runs are long, and nice to grab pics of these beautiful fish and release them back to continue on home.

36lb Tyee Mark Zivot

* Mark and Harrison Zivot post with Mark's 36lb Tyee. So, to sum up, August just about here, Chinooks are here, and some Tyee continue to show on a daily basis. Fishing is good to excellent, all areas producing, and plenty of happy guests on the property tonight. We are in a downpour as I write this, so perhaps it will smarten up by morning. Thanks for checking in, goodnight from The Clubhouse!Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
