CH Report: A Million Bites! - July 8, 2019

July 8, 2019

A dark foggy night in here tonight, fireplace a very popular spot indeed. We just concluded trip nine and the good news, lots of fish in almost all locations. There is a large shot of chinook passing by Langara rocks on the flood tide, both shallow and deep that is providing a ton of action and a million bites. When you have your fill of that, head over to Gunia Boulder and try for a larger chinook in the shallows. Some days it's cooking, other days it's a grind, but that's the nature of fishing for tyee.Out west Lacy is mysteriously quiet to dead, but the Bowel has some fish, some near tyee size. The highway off Thrumb is now producing, so grab your hali first then drop the salmon gear and troll all the way to the light, rods bouncing continuously with bites most days.Top fish of the last trip in here was taken by Shelly Cross, a 43 lb tyee. This was a Gunia Point fish, taken at about 12 noon, first afternoon of the trip....the guides were still strapped to the dock lol. This is the largest self guided fish of the year up here! The halibut and coho fishing is now happening, the hali consistent on the west side, 20 to 35 lbs. Coho are in the ten lb range, most still 8 lb average, but yesterday a 16 lb coho was brought in by Dalton Foran. The last week has seen moderate winds and a building fog bank, but the forecast has the fog dissipating and a few showers of rain solving that problem. The fish are here now for sure, we had a dozen chinook today easily and we left the dock at 9 am. A million bites lol.Below are a few pics of the action. First up Jenny Foran with a nice chinook retained for summer barbecues!
