CH Report: Great Way To Kick Off The Season! ~ June 8, 2016

June 8, 2016

Sunny skies and stiff north west breeze blowing in here tonight. Just off the water from a day of Chinook fishing off the west side of Langara. Some decent Chinook taken, a Tyee on the board, and plenty of happy guests. As this is my first report of the season, a bit of catch-up is in order. We kicked off our guiding season on May 29 and fishing was decent. We had three May Tyee, below is a picture of Norm Pitcher and his 32 lb Chinook we grabbed in close off No-name point. We had a few nice fish that day, including a 27 lb fish. Bud and his guests had to outdo us and grabbed a Chinook that taped out .25 larger haha. This fish was taken between the Reef and the West Bank. Always special and a great way to kick off the season for the guides when they find these fish in May.

We could not tie up our boats on the outside of the dock, so we had to jog behind Lucy island for a long stretch. NIL same deal, circus over there. DJ and the boys out in the skiffs hiding in SOLIDE PASS. Deepwater Don was grounded! Gallacher had to search the beach for his rain gear, all the boys battled hard to prevent damage to our fleet and docks. Southwest 50 is an event in here.I did personal fish during the storm as I could not tie up, and grabbed a couple beauties in Boulder Bay which was protected. Deepwater Don was impressed when I hit the dock with a couple keepers haha.We are now on our third trip, fishing is up and down. At times lots of jacks, 10 to 16 lbs. The odd Tyee in the mix, Mark Basciano grabbed a 30 in my skiff on the West Bank at 6 pm just before coming in day 1. This was a well deserved fish, a lot of patience watching others hook up all afternoon at Seathe Point. Marks fish was the highlight of day 1 . Picture below.

Greg works that spot 10 days a year and always goes home with a bunch of great fish. I have not had a chance to interview him yet about the fishy details. This afternoon, Brent Gallacher managed a 30 lb Tyee at the reef, to kick off his Clubhouse Tyee streak, we drafted him from NIL and he is fitting in great and an asset to our team for sure. All in all we are off and running and finding fish. At times such as today with 35 orcas visiting it was slower at times. That said, lots of fish were caught and lots released in the low teens. A very few Coho have arrived, 7 and 8 lbs already for some, so looking good. The Hali being caught are mostly trolled up incidentally so far, but quite a few 18 lbs to 60 lbs. Garske has sent three large ones back this trip alone.

Bud, Korey, Steve, Brent, Shawn, Bryce, Conman, Evan, Owen, Jonah, Pete, Jared, to name a few, all excited to be back and doing what they love to do, fish hard and and take all of you out in a pursuit of large Chinook Salmon, and have a memorable fun time completing the task. We all look forward to a great season and stay tuned for further updates, time for some shut eye, goodnight from the Clubhouse.Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, Screamer
