North Island Lodge - Arrival at Langara

June 3, 2011

Hello from Langara Island. First of all, a big thanks to all the crew that stepped up and helped with barge loading with all our usual crew committed to other things. DJ was closing up shop on his property, Kauri sneaking in every wave he could while in Indonesia, Mad Dog taking a co-op Job in Ottawa and Kuiama was putting his construction skills to use on our docks here at Langara. It’s always a crazy time as we pack a season’s worth of essentials in just a couple weeks. The only way to explain it is that feeling you get before a long trip wondering what you may have forgotten as you rush out the door…Well, multiply that by a few hundred.

Just a taste of Vancouver’s spring and barge loading complete now complete, tug boat Captain Brad and his crew arrived right on schedule to take us on our journey to Langara Island. The plan was a quick stop in Campbell River and a delivery of gravel to the town of Bella Bella – Shearwater area.

And we're off with skiff in tow.

Kauri on standby- Ready to assist with tie up in Bella Bella.

..Then proceeding up to Prince Rupert for a quick pit-stop.

It was a great trip north with smooth sailing, a little “tinkering” and BBQ’s.

With boxes now stowed, reels spooled and ready for action. How about a little deck time to enjoy the view.

Our first look at Beal Cove for 2011..Home sweet home!

The dive crew ready to splash and hook up our ropes and chains. They reported a water temperature of 45-46 F…Brrrr.

The guys are now busy completing dock repairs and a Heli pad expansion. They keep reminding me they are “putting a hurt” on the daily lists I give them. I must say this experienced crew is making some serious progress and things are coming together as planned. Although they are now hounding me to go fishing daily and it’s getting harder to keep them focused on non fishing related tasks. Early reports have been positive with a good numbers of Chinook and limited traffic on the water. I’m sure the guys will convince me to let them do a little personnel fishing soon…I’ll let you know if we have surf or turf that night!

We are also excited about a few improvements around the lodge, with new Helly Hansen ocean suits, dry room improvements, re-wired boats, 50 inch HD T.V. for your favorite sporting event and new linens to enhance the guest rooms. I will send updates shortly as we unpack and see it all come together. It’s going to be a busy season with a full house headed our way for the duration of the 2011. Now coming down to the wire, the boats and remaining staff will arrive soon as we put the finishing touches on the lodge.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all and exchanging stories again soon.
