OP Report: What Day Is It? ~ July 17, 2015

July 17, 2015

Hello again from Port Louis! Well it’s been a while and lots to report. The stretch at the beginning of July is traditionally where we check the weather and start turning our eyes to the south. Once again we welcome back old friends from years past. This last week we had the DELTA group again. Ken, Eileen, Tony and the gang. As always they were in great spirits and it was a pleasure welcoming back a group with so much passion for The OP.

Here we have Stephen Heller giving guide Ben a lesson in the classic cut plugging. Steve brought his level wind reel and antique rod - I was Super jealous, those things must be 20 years old.

And low and behold, the plugs and rods helped his son Geoffrey produce a beauty 32lber. Those old schoolers from Seattle can still bring’em in.

From the DELTA group, returning to us Chad and Steve Patitucci enjoying a nice day on the water. I got to guide this trip and boy it was windy a couple days. On the last day of the trip Kristian Eligh won the derby with a 30lb Tyee. No big deal - just took a break from his role as Chef de Cuisine at the famous restaurant Hawksworth in Vancouver - to slay Tyees. We enjoyed helping Scott Lyons from Ledcor celebrate his birthday not too long ago. A nice surprise for us, but I doubt his secretary is gonna enjoy the speechs she’s gonna receive. Haha, you can’t hide from us Scott.

* Jason Thomas 30lb Tyee. More recently the team of Ben Wiebe and Jason Thomas from Edmonton picked up twin Tyees respectively. First we had Ben With this beauty 33lber. Only not to be quite out done by Jason with his 30lber on the last day. With the help of Francis these boys both went home with coveted pins. Nice work boys.

Last week saw the return of our own JP Biron for a rockstar guide shift. I got word from Rose at the airport there were people crowding around to get their picture with JP. Rose was like “ who is this guy, everybody wants their picture taken with him.” Haha rockstar indeed.

I’m ashamed to say, that last week brought a first here at The OP, Mackenzie and Liz squared off in the final round of the trips KRUD match. They lined up for the final shot and promply indicated that they were going to share the win. I promply threw my clipboard and pen and stormed out. It’s unheard of, sharing in KRUD!! It goes against the very nature of the game!! Sacrilidge!!As the weather goes up and comes down, as the fish swim past and get hooked. We here at The Outpost have to ask ourselves sometimes….what day is it?Until next time.Jordan KnightGeneral Manager, The Outpost
