Give where you live: West Coast Fishing Club's Dedication to Community Through Corporate Responsibility

When West Coast Fishing Club owners Brian Legge and Richard Grange first visited the Haida Qwaii, they knew instantly the potential of their host location. They also recognized the amazing positive impact their operations could have on the surrounding population. In 1991, the West Coast Fishing Club was the first sports fishing lodge to commit ground operations in Masset BC, a small fly-in community 30 minutes helicopter ride from The Clubhouse. Soon, other lodges followed suit and today more than 20,000 anglers are transported through the village each year.

Brian and Richard also understood the importance of creating an industry that was sustainable and that gave consideration to the environment. Their philosophy for catch and release has helped ensure that generations to come will have the opportunity to enjoy a vibrant, managed resource. The two friends took their beliefs to hand, and thanks to initiatives and partner organizations, the West Coast Fishing Club has helped raise over $1.2 million dollars towards enhancement, restoration and research of wild salmon.

In 2006, the WCFC hosted the 1st Annual Fishing for Kids Tournament at the West Coast Fishing Club. With the sweeping beauty of Haida Qwaii as a backdrop, 40 determined anglers raised an amazing $475,000 for BC's special and in-need children.  Since then, the event has raised an amazing $2.3 million dollar and attracts community and business leaders from throughout Canada. The effects of this contribution can be seen through the province, from Masset to Vancouver, Fort Nelson to the Kootenais, the Okanagan, Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.  If you are planning a visit to one of our properties and would like to make a donation to the Tournament, please see a West Coast Fishing Club hospitability host. The Fishing for Kids Tournament is just one more way the West Coast Fishing Club helps give where we live.
