Panama: The World is my LobsterMay 18, 2011
Today’s adventures focussed on exploring our local waters around Isla del Rey. The gang invited staffer Lovely Lindsay along for the civilizing influence of a woman. She brings luck right away with this glorious pompano.
We are told they are excellent eating. Unfortunately later in the day, as Junior and Alirio unload the fish for cleaning, a big swell knocks the pompano off the cutting board and back into the ocean. You’ll have to get us another one Linds!
Below is “Croco-Jack” with this mean looking needlefish, caught just around the corner from Punta Cocos.
Some local scenery…
The guests have been begging to try the local delicacy of spiny lobster, so I take Kirby and Jack into the nearby fishing village to haggle for some for their dinner.
Jack and Kirby make friends with the village kids while I negotiate the goods.
This is our haul…pretty nice!! We are salivating in anticipation of what Chef Michael will prepare…
…and Chef Michael plates it up: Local Lobster with brothy Spanish rice cooked in fresh coconut milk.
Today’s Panamanian Slang Lesson:
“No frieges!”= You’re joking!
“No hombre!” = No way!
Good night from paradise,
