Panama – New Blogger at the Helm!May 15, 2011
Taking over the blog from story-telling master Kenny B. is no small challenge – Ken, you are a legend! I will do my best to continue in the true tradition of El Bloggo, as our staff here in Panama like to call him.
Today was a sad day as Ken left us to go back to Vancouver to get the season started at the Outpost. He was an integral part of getting WCFC Panama primed and ready – we miss you already Kenny B! Thanks again for being here.
Two new faces at the bar tonight – but very familiar ones to Clubhousers – Kirby Renton and Jack Hill. These guys are Clubhouse legends in Haida Gwaii – lots of stories about these two rascals. They are on their BEST behaviour so far – here they are drinking virgin cocktails on the deck…
They had some great shots of the flight out to the island from Panama City…
You don’t see this too often in Panama…
They headed out today to check out some coastal fishing and explore the neighborhood…
…get a taste for the fishing, and to catch some dinner.
This is going to be on the table tonight…look at this snapper…
And here’s Jack with a gorgeous Amberjack.
Chef Michael is very excited to prepare some beautiful sashimi with the Amberjack (usually called Kampachi on northern sushi menus) – this is a real delicacy to eat this way. He prepares it some fresh cashews – in season right now in Panama!
Michael is also excited about this chocolate that arrived today – from a small farm in Bocas del Toro on the Atlantic side of Panama. Can’t wait to see what he does with it!
Ok – here’s some homework: every blog post, I will teach you one new Panamanian slang phrase or expression that might come in handy during your visit (don’t worry – we’ll keep it PG on the blog).
“Pana” = slang for good friend
“Que Sopa” = what’s up! (well really more like wassup!) – translates literally as “What’s the soup”
“Que sopa, Pana!” = “Wassup, my main man!”
Good night from Paradise,
