Panama: A Whale of a Time

« Back to Posts

As if we weren't spoiled enough here, lately our beautiful bay has been visited by humpback whales - shouting out to their cousins in Haida Gwaii, no doubt!

Below is a shot taken by our Chief Engineer Scot just a short distance from the ship. We have been watching spouts as the whales breach from the back deck of the ship - just amazing. You really feel connected to something ancient seeing these graceful giants...

Our new arrivals - the Barnes family - were also thrilled to see so many whales out fishing today.

Below the whale goes back under - look how close it is to the game boat as James looks on!!!

Sean (below, in white) works with the Trump Tower in Panama City - he is in charge of the contract for FFE (Furniture, Fixtures, and Everything...okay okay, I forget what the E stands for), and is responsible for everything from lighting to the mountains of pillows in the guest rooms. He's taking a day off to spend with his visiting family...below are Uncle Glenn and father James...

...while mother Mary Ellen hangs out up top with Captain Alexis.

Sean holds his fish like a baby...

Glenn is wondering if it's his turn next...

Success! Another amberjack for the dinner table...

James's turn...

James looks to a higher power to say thanks for this huge amberjack (well, actually, it's to show off to his lovely wife watching from the tower)...

The game boat comes home on almost flat calm - what a gorgeous day...

Sean and Mary Ellen go for a swim - you're a long way from New York now baby!

Here is an art shot I couldn't resist including - look at the teeth on this needlefish!!! Chef Michael fly fishes for these fish EVERY night off the deck - there is a huge one who has been taunting him for weeks now. He also cooks them, rolled in fresh grated coconut and fried...deeeeeeelish...

The eyes have it...

Good night from Paradise,

Tobey.
