The lures have changed The experience is first class
Panama's Newest Fishing Resort • Opening 2011
August, or “Hogust” as guides are now calling it, is off to an incredible start. Herring and neddlefish schools are sticking around Lacy Island and Gunia Pt. Not far behind, and arriving on schedule, the Gunia Pt – Boulder Bay area is now seeing trophy class fish daily. Several fish in the 40 + range have been caught in the last week, including a 61lber, our largest of the season, caught and released by David Easter of the Pickseed group. These guys have been coming to North Island since we opened our doors and truly understand the value of our resource. A great moment for both David and guide Kauri as they let this beauty continue the journey to its home river.
Yesterday was the nicest day we’ve seen this season. Not a breath of wind, sunshine all day and lots of Langara tans around the lodge. So, I decided to make a run from the office and escape on a guide charter. Four guides in one boat can make for a lot of laughs, each guide critiques techniques, hook setting abilities, among other antics. We caught a total of 8 Chinook between 17-28lbs, a few misses and losses, a handful of coho made for steady action all afternoon….That’s right , I said afternoon.
The view from our back yard….
And of course, a few more fishy shots taken lately….
The Reids show off their 43lber
Guide Ryan displays a 17.5lb coho.
Nick Gilliam and guide Scott with another 40+
Steve Boone and guide Kauri release another one!
The General Hank Emerson at 87 years with his 35lber! He was on his “A” game this year, entertaining everyone, and loads of fun to have here.
Yes that’s right, it’s changeover and time for some planning. A new group and It’s go time.
I’m excited to be suiting up and playing guide tomorrow. Hoping to add another trophy release to the board.
See you out there!

Derek and Jeff,
Thank you for your kind words. All of us truly appreciate your comments.
Great people and all the laughs make it fun for us as well. I hope we can do it again next season and please pass on a hello to " The General" for us.
Fred,
Good to hear you're keeping tabs on us but we learned from the best! I will try and get a few more posts up for you, but as you are know the nuts and bolts can sometimes get in the way of computer time.
To All- Please keep in touch and don't hesitate to call or email to get the latest North Island Lodge update.

Todd and Crew,
What a fantastic trip I had. This was my first time ever fishing like this and I now have a life time full of memories. You and your staff were amazingly genuine and entertaining. A special thank you to Ryan for taking us out the first day and showing us the ropes and to Katie for being a smiling face first thing in the morning and as we came in each night. I did not hear one complaint while we were there.
The other group that was there (Hank, Jeff, Steve, Dr, and Rick) were a blast of laughs and stories. KILL PHIL and "Osco Bosco" were a few highlights...
Thank you for being such a great host and having a fantastic crew of people. I'm truly appreciative for the opportunity and hope that I can make it back again!
Thank you very very much!

Todd, DJ and crew,
Thanks for the great memories! The General was definitely on his "A" game this year and I'll never forget it. It had been a long time since I had the opportunity to hunt for Kings with Hank. When the opportunity arose, I literally dropped everything and jumped at the chance to escort The Gunfighter on what may possibly be his last North Island trip. From the start, the fishing was amazing, the atmosphere contagious and the food was delicious (with or without the "Osco Bosco"). Many many thanks to the entire staff at the North Island Lodge, especially the ladies for being so patient and so caring with Hank. Hank said it was the best fishing trip of his life! WOW, That's saying a lot because we've had some good ones. It was easily the best fishing trip ever for myself as well, and if it indeed is the last with the "Gunfighter" I'll never forget it as long as I live. I pray we'll be back next year but there are many sunrises and sunsets until then. Thanks again for everything! And if you ever need a laugh, remember the "Osco Bosco"! -JEFF
Oh yeah.......KILL PHIL!!!! J/k Kate!
Jeff,
It was an honor meeting you, rick and the General. I'm thankful for the service that you have given our country and extremely appreciative of Hank.
Please stay safe in your travels. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of more of our service men this week and hope that this wasn't the mission you were supposed to be on.
I'd love to keep in contact with you and the general.
~Derek
