Clack clack clack!!! This is a sound I've heard repeatedly but it's always been associated with winter time weather. Can this sound I hear really be those frozen pellets raining down and striking the metal exhaust fan outside? This sound I hear has me looking outside to confirm with my eyes what my ears have heard. Hail! It's May 9th , spring according to my calendar.... read more »
In the 34 weeks we have been here this week has been by far the most uneventful and unproductive. Last Tuesday when I foolishly picked something up the wrong way I figured a day or two and I'd be back on my daily 4 mile walk, that's 36 times around the boardwalk...I was wrong. While my tolerance for standing (hunched over) and walking (slowly) has increased a bit longe... read more »
The weather this week has been anything but “springlike”. Cold mornings, rainy afternoons and windy evenings have been the norm although there was one evening that hinted at things to come. I know it can be nice, I've seen the evidence in Ken's summertime blog. Guides wearing t-shirts while out on the water tell me it must get warm here ...eventually...and the fish... read more »
For the last couple of years Mike and I have called the 'Outpost' in Port Louis our home but there is evidence that we, WCFC, are not the first to have found this little bay a welcoming area. I have tried to find any reference to whom they might have been in the books we have here but have come up empty. I wonder how they came to be here, what type of dwelling did they... read more »
We had the Easter Bunny, of sorts, visit us this past holiday weekend. He left behind eggs although they weren't of the chocolate variety. We didn't mind, in fact we were quite ecstatic with plain old regular chicken eggs. This particular Easter Bunny also left behind lots of 'rabbit food', lettuce, carrots, celery, cucumbers, apples, oranges and bananas to name just a... read more »
Late one afternoon this week while enjoying a glass of wine, watching the ever changing sky we commented on how different the weather has been this year. I decided to look back to the blog I had posted this time last year. Funny how we forget things, for that post could have been written this week it was so similar. Rain, hail, some sun and even waves that caught my at... read more »
Maybe we are feeling a bit antsy due to the fact that the weather has gotten warmer ( about time) and we want to get out and traipse through the forest and do some more exploring by water but those April showers that bring May flowers have arrived here a week early in full force. I know we could suit up in a full set of foul weather gear and I have on occasion when I j... read more »
March 16th was circled in red and given a gold star in my calendar this past week. What made this day so special, you ask. The pictures tell it all. So spring has finally arrived at the Outpost, as it seems to have done in Ontario also. Family and friends have all passed along pictures of flowers starting to bloom and being outdoors wearing t-shirts and sa... read more »
West Coast Fishing Club Northern destinations almost booked for 2012. To date, West Coast Fishing Club has received the highest number of 2012 bookings for our northern properties that we have ever seen, over our 25-year history. We are currently sitting within the 92% capacity range at all properties for the 2012 salmon-fishing season. The strong percentage o... read more »
Some weeks a phase, a thought or a good title will pop into my head which gives me some sort of direction that my blog will take. Hopefully this happens before Wednesday afternoon when I sit down to write, as this seems to have become my routine. If there is nothing rambling around up there and I can assure you that some days there isn't, than I wait and see what comes... read more »
If ever there was a cause for celebration it was Monday March 5th when the barge finally arrived in Port Louis. Ken had been keeping us up to date as to their progress and a possible attempt to come down the coast Monday or Tuesday. On Sunday afternoon we received the email that we have been waiting 6 months to read........the barge is coming!!!! An ETA of 10 a... read more »
March came in neither like a lion nor a lamb or so I thought. The very beginning of the day, midnight, it began to rain with some hail mixed in but only lasted for 15 minutes or so. It did get noticeably colder though as we saw the temperature drop 2 degrees inside....caused me to bring the heater just a tad closer. The morning dawned grey, nothing new about that but w... read more »
I've been feeling a bit under the weather for the last couple of days. Free of any germs or cooties that find their way into your everyday life among populated areas is something we don't have a problem with. I can't remember the last time either of us even had a cold so where did this 'achy' feeling come from? Am I feeling under the weather because of the weather? Tho... read more »
“What would you like for Valentine's day?” “Heat, maybe some sun.....that would be nice.” This might be a tall order but February 14th dawned without a cloud in the sky, nor a hint of wind with the promise of seeing the sun. First things first....a breakfast of hot out of the oven walnut sticky buns was the request on this special day. I don't h... read more »
I'm going to have to dig deep this week to find something entertaining to talk about. It has been a time where the days come and go without much change, each just a repetition of the other. The weather has gotten a bit warmer and the mornings while still chilly (inside) aren't the frigid temperatures that required streaming mugs of coffee to warm my hands and a b... read more »

I left off last week saying it was snowing but with warmer weather on the horizon predicted by the powers that forecast these things. Again he was right on both counts and we had snow most of the day on Friday. I don't mind the snow, it looks pretty and stays white and clean till it melts... no cars or smog here to turn it grey and dirty looking. Sam doesn't seem to... read more »
This week has been all about the weather, from 'Alerts' of snowfall to 'Warnings' of frigid air. The weatherman was right on both counts. I've lost track of the number of days since the sun has graced our shores but the slight snowfall we experienced did add a different dimension to the normally somber horizon. Sammy, who can usually be found looking in the k... read more »
“I think I just saw a light.” It's late Sunday night, 11:48pm to be exact when Mike made this statement. We both jump up to peer out the window into the darkness. Nothing but a wall of black and I mean black. It must be a pretty heavy cloud cover for we can see no stars nor a moon. Staring into nothingness for another 30 seconds I mentioned that it was about thi... read more »
The new year arrived quietly under the cover of a grey sky and wispy low clouds. The forecast for an unusually cold winter has yet to materialize, which is a good thing. Just the other day we had a temperature of 10C and if I didn't know better I would think that spring was just around the corner. Mild as it may be it still looks like January. Maybe bec... read more »
