August, or “Hogust” as guides are now calling it, is off to an incredible start. Herring and neddlefish schools are sticking around Lacy Island and Gunia Pt. Not far behind, and arriving on schedule, the Gunia Pt – Boulder Bay area is now seeing trophy class fish daily. Several fish in the 40 + range have been caught in the last week, including a 61lber, our larges... read more »
Numbers of Chinook have slowed but average size is up. Those “Hippas” or “Yellow Dotters’ , as CH head guide Screamer likes to call them, are now making an appearance. It has created a buzz around here and these deep bodied fish, Chinook with “shoulders”, are hitting the dock daily. All signs are again leading towards a promising week. Coho are thick as well, g... read more »
It was another great week of fishing here. Day one of last week, lady luck prevailed with Polly Topolinsky collecting a pin for her 39lber. Guide Brent continues to fish well. After a 46 release in early July, he shows us it was no fluke and put a cherry on top, guiding North Island first-timer Colin Frasier into a 47lber… A great release shot. A little hea... read more »

The Tyee releases continued to mount this trip. Long time guest Ken Perrine with the Simon group managed 3 for himself....Here’s a shot of his measured and released 42lber…Sure looks all of that to me! "Stacked like cordwood” Fishing has been unreal here- Maxing out the helicopter with guests and fish seems to be the norm right now. Some of the comments I’ve heard this week. “ The best one yet”, “You have a special place here”, “This is why we come here”, and my personal favorite, “I’m a North Island junkie. I just need it”. Adrian Kieywegt... read more »

Right out of the... read more »
Set-up is now complete and we just welcomed our first guests of 2011. The lodge looks great and the pieces have come together nicely. Here’s a little peek at the new dry room upgrades and new HH suits ready for action. Not sure what DJ is doing here with that T.V. and office chair? Executive seating and home theater perhaps? The dock and lodge are lookin... read more »
Hello from Langara Island. First of all, a big thanks to all the crew that stepped up and helped with barge loading with all our usual crew committed to other things. DJ was closing up shop on his property, Kauri sneaking in every wave he could while in Indonesia, Mad Dog taking a co-op Job in Ottawa and Kuiama was putting his construction skills to use on our docks here a... read more »
Yes, sunny skies! Everyone was in shocked last week having our first taste of vitamin D in a long time. It was a nice change not having to put the raingear on to step outside. Northwest winds have been holding a fogbank offshore and although there’s some tough conditions on the Westside of Langara, our favorite eastside haunts are still open for business and holding a fa... read more »
Continued westerly winds have most of the boats fishing the leeward side of Langara with focus on Coho, Andrews and Guinia Point. We sure appreciate having the island to hide behind when we these strong North West winds kick up. Although fishing overall was a little slower last week, we saw a good number of Tyee’s hit the dock. A total of 6 to be exact, with several Ch... read more »
The intensity is evident out on the grounds as a push of huge Chinook move through the area. Angler’s right now are getting only a few chances a day, but trophy Chinook are being caught. This is when the game changes; the leaders are inspected twice, the tide charts are pulled, and every pass all eyes remain glued to rod tips. Guides are spending their time&nb... read more »
Well, I apologize for the delayed report folks. It’s been a busy around here with a mid–season buzz kicking it up a notch for me. Early last week the Chinook fishing remained strong but with lots of fish in the teens moving into the area. There was a total of 4 Tyee with Heather Bacon producing a matching pair of 31’s, Marc Robinson from the Crown Cork crew and Allen... read more »
Well, a lot to tell you about today. After a close finish, The Spring Salmon Challenge is now over with George Morine taking top prize with his 48.4lber. Not a fantastic picture due to the rain on the lens but you can sure get an idea of the size. Congratulations George! Last week was full of excitement and some very respectable fishing, but the... read more »
After a 2 day lull on the salmon fishing, things picked up and we are back to strong numbers. The boats spread out from east down to the Cabbage Patch to McPhearson Pt and all spots were producing fish to some degree. Ed and Joanne Hedges had some incredible action choosing to work Explorer Bay and Mcphearson Pt. They caught a total of 3 Tyee’s with the largest bein... read more »
The Langara Island fishery remains strong with decent numbers of Chinook continuing to move through as we approach the end on June. Coho numbers were also better last trip with a 9lb sized average. There was lots of Chinook in the twenties and a total of 3 Tyee pins handed out over the weekend. We also heard rumors of a 57lber taken at Boulder Bay from a neighboring lodge.... read more »

A quick report to keep you in the know as I’m just headed down the ramp to suit up a play the guide roll for the first time this season. This morning saw a little south east chop out at Cohoe Point but it hasn’t stopped the Chinook from rolling in. No tyee’s in a couple of days but quite a few fish in the upper twenties hitting the dock this morning. Matt, Brent a... read more »
New Leader of the Spring Salmon Challenge! George Morine braved the elements to connect with the current leader in the Spring Salmon Challenge. George hooked the fish in tight at Cohoe Point and the 30kt southern wind pushed them two miles offshore during the 40 min battle. There was no hesitation on his part to let this fish go and Guide Tyson “The Albino Rhino” Reid... read more »
